To search for photos on SWOP, start by using the text search bar to explore images related to an event, location or people in High Wycombe and srrounding areas. You can begin from the home page by clicking the SWOP link at the top of most pages, or from an image details page.
Enter your keywords into the search box, then press Enter or click the Search button to view the results. If you search for common local names or places, you may see hundreds or even thousands of images. To narrow this down, add more specific words to your search. Alternatively, use the Advanced Search filters to narrow the search results.
The results will appear on the first page, and you can move through additional pages using the Next > and < Previous buttons at the bottom. The search works by finding images that include all the words you entered, showing results where each term appears somewhere in the image text.
A search will look for images that include all the terms you put in the text search box. A logical AND is performed between the search terms entered and results returned where the search terms appear anywhere in an image text.
Advanced Search
SWOP search offers an advanced search capability using filters. Refer to the Advanced Search page for details.
Search Results
On the search results page, the filters above the search bar can be used to narrow your results by location, collection photographer, or subject, or by adding additional text search terms.
To keep SWOP responsive, only the top 999 most relevant results are displayed. Use more search terms and filters to reduce the number of photos returned. Browse through these results using the previous and next buttons at the bottom of the page.
Each search result has an image of the photo and summary information. Clicking the image or SWOP ID will take you to the photograph’s details.
